International Students

Moving to a different country can be very daunting, however here at MyPad our friendly team are ready to welcome you to your new home and will be on hand to help with anything you may need during your stay.

We also understand you might not be able to view the accommodation before moving to the UK, so we are happy to offer Skype tours – showing you bedrooms, communal areas, study rooms and games rooms. If you would like a Skype tour, please get in contact with us. We can also send over images of the accommodation too.

Our 24/7 smart online booking system through Fresh Student Living can look for a room for you at any time, no matter what the time difference. At booking, you can also select your move-in date and time online, ensuring there are no delays at check-in, which is great to know after a long flight.

Once you have booked and secured your room, we have dedicated social media pages where you can meet people who are also moving to MyPad so you can start to meet people online before you arrive in the UK.

Our supportive team at MyPad can also help with certain elements of moving to a new country such as helping you to open a UK bank account and helping you negotiate the different local transport connections.

Before you arrive in Scotland, you will need to bring some identification (ID) with you:

  • Your Passport
  • Letter from University/College to prove you are a student
  • Copy of your Tenancy Agreement – your Accommodation Team can provide a copy or you can print via your Student Portal

Your Tenancy Agreement will be required for you to open a bank account. After booking an appointment with your chosen bank, they will advise you on the best account which should not have any charges. The bank will then send you your bank card and your pin number separately (remember to keep them safe).

If you want to pay your deposit and rent internationally, you can make payments via Pay to Study which is a free method of paying from abroad. These payments will also receive competitive foreign exchange rates. Pay to Study eliminates the international banking charges that usually occur when you make international payments.

If you are unwell or need to visit a medical professional during your stay at MyPad, Abbey Medical Centre and St Mirren Dental Surgery are just a short walk away. If you need any help or advice for signing up to either of these, please let our reception staff know and we will be happy to help you.
